Go Local

By Susan Smith

Greetings Neighbors – I am writing this post to encourage everyone to shop, eat, and buy services from local sources. We have a very short season where most locally owned businesses earn their yearly income. You don’t have to leave the region to find most things you need.

[Editor’s note: Find a list of local resources in the Directory.]

FOOD – UB’s Mercantile in Oswegatchie, Twin Lakes in Star Lake, The Birch’s Lakeside and Cranberry, Otto’s Abode in Wanakena
GIFTS – UB’s Mercantile in Oswegatchie, Adirondack Rustic in Oswegatchie, Holy Grail in Star Lake, Birch’s Lakeside in Cranberry
BUILDING SUPPLIES – Todd’s Supply in Star Lake
BOAT RENTALS AND/OR SERVICING – JR WELLING Enterprises in Star Lake, Birch’s Lakeside in Cranberry
BARS – Twin Lakes in Star Lake, The Mervin Eno American Legion Post in Star Lake, The Thirsty Moose in Childwold

There are many local small businesses who provide construction and property management work including Turn Key Construction, Bliss Construction, Mike LeRoux, Steve Folsom, Dean Kerr….. look in the Bargain Hunter to find contact information.

COMMUNITY EVENTSCranberry Lake Boat Club, Cranberry Lake North Shore Hub, SOS – events always in Bargain Hunter, Summer Concert Series in Wanakena (contact Otto’s Abode), Cranberry Lake Art Show, Cranberry Lake Craft Fair and the fire departments all do meal based fundraisers – find info in the Bargain Hunter.

[Editor’s note: The Event Calendar has a full and growing list of events.]

If we want to thrive we have to invest in ourselves and our neighbors! Spend local. Care Local. Volunteer Local. I’m sure I’ve missed some options for meeting your needs locally – feel free to let me know what I’ve missed!
